The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy® (Socialization, Training
During this class, you’ll be able to get information on all of your puppy-raising questions including potty training, chewing, mouthing/nipping, and the most effective way to teach practical skills such as coming when called along with responsible pet ownership responsibilities. AKC S.T.A.R. lays a solid foundation for other AKC activities such as the AKC® Canine Good Citizen® Program.
All dogs and owners who pass the 20 step S.T.A.R Puppy test may receive the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Medal in addition to a frameable certificate from the American Kennel Club and you and your puppy will be listed in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Records. All dog breeds, mixed breeds and pure breeds, are welcome to participate in The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy program. This type of training enhances the bond between the owner and the puppy.

Prerequisite: Graduation from Puppy Obedience is required, or K9U Trainer Assessment. Younger than 1 year old, and should be good with people and dogs. Current age-appropriate vaccinations are also required.
According to the AKC guidelines for S.T.A.R., puppy owners will be asked to sign the “Responsible Dog Owners Pledge”. The AKC believes that responsible dog ownership is a key part of the Canine Good Citizen concept and by signing this pledge, owners agree to take care of their dog’s health needs, safety, exercise, training, and overall quality of life.
Owners also agree to show responsibility by doing things such as cleaning up after their dogs in public places and never letting our dogs infringe on others.
